the Dirty Ashtray

Robots for Hire seem to enjoy some of our off-menu items at Bootleg Bar. This post highlights one of our favorites – the Dirty Ashtray. The recipe is as follows: 1 Tecate Tall Boy + half a lime + salt + pepper + 1 heavy dose of hot sauce. The blogger recalls, “The bartender then opens the can with a friendly, “are you ready for this?”  The answer is always yes. Come grab a Dirty Ashtray tonight with us at the bar. Muy caliente folks.

Civil Twilight fans came from all over the country to the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday, January 19. From as close as San Diego, to Arizona, to as far as Massachusetts and Maryland – the “soldiers” are certainly supportive of their favorite band.

The South African band’s first album, Civil Twilight, was released back in 2010 with another single, “Teardrop” (Massive Attack cover), released soon after. Since then fans have been craving new music from the talented trio.

The majority of Civil Twilight’s set at the Bootleg was new music; while fans might not be able to sing along much, the music fulfilled their desire for new tunes!

Princeton Residency Night 2 @ The Bootleg Theater – Ft. TV Girl

Princeton Press 300x214 Princeton Residency Night 2 @ The Bootleg Theater Ft. TV Girl

Let us take a moment to recognize the efforts of The Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles. Unlike similar nearby venues such as The Satellite, The Echo and The Silverlake Lounge, this unmarked venue on Beverly Blvd. is meticulous about sound and space – providing just the right volume, leveling the instruments and ensuring an all-around pleasant listening experience.

This appreciation for live music is crucial, especially for bands such as TV Girl and Princeton who rely heavily on layering sound and uncommon instruments that require supplementary support.
