Paper Bird - (Set time: 8:30 PM)
Paper Bird
Paper Bird’s backbone is their songwriting, musicianship and a general allergy to all limitations and trends. With eight members and no leader, possibilities are ever unfolding, with fluctuations in style and mood akin to weather patterns.
Since the band’s formation over 5 years ago, Paper Bird has been playing it’ joyful blend of folk, roots, and americana to delighted audiences across the country. Their unique sound is a combination of a dynamic and energetic rhythm section intertwined with effortless and flowing harmonies. With 3 full length albums and several national tours under their belt, Paper Bird has steadily grown in both their success and sound while continuing to expand and explore what the band can do musically.

The seven members of the band include: Mark Anderson (drums), Sarah Anderson (voice, trumpet), Paul DeHaven (guitar), Esme Collins (voice), Genevieve Patterson (voice), Caleb Summeril (banjo, guitar), and Macon Terry (bass). Each individual writes songs for the group and this keeps new material rolling of the shelf at a healthy pace. Paper Bird’s live performances showcase the diversity and good-time vibe of the group while providing a fresh and unique take on a sound that has a tendency to bring the listener back to a different era. Young in age but timeless in spirit, Paper Bird continually captures the hearts of new listeners and long-time fans. Their rare and beautiful approach to music led them to be featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and were voted in the Top 10 Best Underground Bands by the Denver Post three years
in a row, as well as being 5280’s Top of the Town 2009 “Top Local Band”.

Paper Bird has released two studio albums, Anything Nameless and Joymaking (2007) and When the River took Flight (2010), and also a live album, Carry On (2011), which
was the score to a collaboration with Ballet Nouveau Colorado of the same name. 2012 has the band on the road once again while releasing Carry On remixed and remaster on vinyl in the Fall. A new studio album is being written and recorded and is set to be released in early 2013.

The band’s inception came a few years ago during a vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado. They wrote a song as a cure for cabin fever, and tested playing it standing on a street corner, where they earned a few dollars and decided to form a band. Shortly after they went into the studio and recorded their first self-released album Anything Nameless and Joymaking (2007), which has been a top selling record in local retail stores since its release. Following releases include: A Sky Underground (2009), When the River Took Flight (2010), and Carry On (2011).
The Shore - (Set time: 9:30 PM)
The Shore
Rock solid songwriting. A passionate commitment to music that makes a difference and the chops to pull it off.
With a name as evocative as their music, The Shore is a richly talented young quartet whose seamless ensemble sound welds a rich mix of influences. From Neil Young to Coldplay to the Verve, The Shore brings it all together in a grand musical vision that is reminiscent of the best that rock can be while remaining utterly innovative and original.

The evidence can be heard on The Shore, the band's awe-inspiring Maverick Records debut album, featuring ten original tracks from founder and front man Ben Ashley. Produced and mixed by veteran LA music scenester Rick Parker, The Shore brings a compelling new dimension to modern music with a style and sensibility as accomplished as it is original.

Formed on the thriving Silver Lake music scene during the summer of '02, The Shore brings together a young line-up from such far-flung locales as Philadelphia, Detroit and the surf haven of Dana Point in Orange County, California. Drummer John Wilmer is the only actual Los Angeles native, but the foursome quickly found common musical ground thanks to an extensive apprenticeship in a variety of bands on the club and studio scene.

It was in the spring of 2002 that Ben first joined forces with producer Rick Parker (Joe Firstman & Miranda Lee Richards). Parker offered to record some of Ben's songs who, in turn, recruited the best local musicians he knew for the project. The combination clicked and The Shore was born.

The resulting disc eventually found its way to the desk of Maverick A&R man Scott Austin, who showcased and quickly signed the newly assembled band. The Shore immediately began preproduction and just a few months after their initial recordings, found themselves in the studio cutting their major label debut with Rick Parker returning to the producer's chair. Building on the solid foundation of the demos, Ben wrote a sheaf of new material for the occasion. The sessions, lasting three months, featured the quartet tracking live as much as possible to capture the extraordinary creative energy that has set them apart from their inception.

The result is The Shore, ten original songs that announce, in no uncertain
terms, the arrival of a young band with a very promising future indeed. From the evocative opening notes of "The Hard Road," to the vivid imagery of "Waiting For The Sun," to the resonant emotional pitch of "Hold On," The Shore is an album that celebrates the enduring values of heartfelt songwriting and consummate craftsmanship in a collection of songs that seems certain to land The Shore a place among the very best of tomorrow's rock originals.
