Split Screens - (Set time: 11:00 PM)
Split Screens
Split Screens is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Jesse Cafiero. Born out of the inspiring move from the east coast to California, Split Screens began as Jesse's creative outlet on the side, slowly taking it's shape while he was busy making his name in San Francisco as a bass player, playing at times in the backing bands of bay area mainstays like Thao Nguyen, John Vanderslice and Ezra Furman.

Crafted entirely at the enigmatic Coyote Hearing Studios in Oakland, CA, Split Screens' debut self-titled EP was produced and engineered by Jeremy Black (Apollo Sunshine). Highlighting the unique voice of the lap steel guitar, Jesse sang and played the majority of instruments on the record, along with the talents of drummer Rory O'Connor (Tycho, Com Truise) and vibraphonist Geneva Harrison (Rachel Goodrich). The result is a dreamy compilation of songs blending between the themes of life and loss, at moments trance-like and reflective, at other times driven with cacophonous intensity. With the recent transition from studio project to live band, Split Screens has taken the exciting step of performing in the bay area and beyond.
Terrible Buttons - (Set time: 10:15 PM)
Terrible Buttons
Terrible Buttons adds a little darkness to their
blues/folk roots. Their sound combines the blunt
lyricism of David Bazan with the Fleet Foxes'
indie/folk instrumentation. Formed nearly two
years ago on the streets of Portland by vocalists
Sarah Berentson and Kent Ueland, Terrible Buttons,
located in Spokane, WA, now consists of 7 full-time
members. They utilize an array of acoustic folk instruments,
from trumpet to accordion, adding an intimate edge to
their wall of sound style. Although Terrible Buttons uses
complex instrumentation, they pride themselves in the
bare simplicity of their music in an attempt to accent
their heartfelt lyrics. Their lyrics approach topics
ranging from the evils of marriage to loneliness and
the absence of god.
Their ceasless work ethic and urgent sound have
garnered them attention from someof the biggest names
in independent music production, including "iTunes Top 100"
artists Ryan Lewis & Macklemore, as well as Grammy Award
winning producer and composer Pete Stewart. Keep an eye
out for Terrible Buttons as the tour bus continues to roll,
and they continue to challenge the bounds of todays
often-tired folk paradigm.
Son Ark - (Set time: 9:30 PM)
Son Ark
son ark arrived in Los Angeles by way of Roanoke Virginia (which lays exactly between The Grand Ole Opry and Apollo Theatre) when they heard a rumor that Sam Philips was rebuilding Muscle Shoals on the west coast. Since then, son ark has been filling establishments across Los Angeles with their unmistakably unique brand of Americana roots rock and with lyrics that tell tales of bygone eras and heartbreaking love lost, son ark longingly reminds us of days gone by. The songs are not antiques, though. Influenced by the likes of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Patsy Cline, Andrew Bird, and Led Zeppelin, son ark tells their tales in a decidedly contemporary way.
