Californian indie rockers ALSO are a fine example of what good songwriting and great musicianship can create. Their sound is a hybrid of strong and muscular roots-rock with prominent 80s British post-punk influences (mostly in the clean guitar tones which are bright and ethereal in the best way possible) and a touch of jangle-pop. Try to figure out a mixture of R.E.M., 16 Horsepower's mystical singing and Echo & The Bunnymen's atmospheric grandeur and you might get a rough idea of what I'm talking about. In an era of scruffy productions, out of key singing and uninteresting hipster phenomena, songs like "True" simply shine. Laura Meyer - (Set time: 9:00 PM)

Laura Meyer started in New York City, where she regularly performed at clubs like Pianos, Joe's Pub, CBGB's, and The Bitter End while attending NYU's Gallatin School for Individualized Study. Pretty soon she was driving circles around the US, performing over 500 shows in the few years since graduation. Her intelligent songwriting and road-honed performances have earned her bills with artists including
While spending the majority of three years living out of a car, driving over 100,000 miles and playing over 400 shows, Laura Meyer has lived at the mercy of tires, tip jars, and the kind souls who fill them. Her intelligent songwriting and road-honed performances have earned her bills with artists including David Byrne, Bruce Hornsby, Jenny Lewis, Conor Oberst, and Ryan Adams. She's also weathered sketchy bar owners, break-ins, snowstorms, and hungry nights spent with bed bugs and disease. Somewhere in between, these songs were born. Having completed a whirlwind tour of nine countries in the first half of 2011, Laura is now in Los Angeles working with a new band on the follow-up to her highly praised full-band debut, Been Here Before.

Foolproof Four - (Set time: 10:00 PM)

"Foolproof Four is a sweet alt-country act who will have you reminiscing the cool moments of the careers of The Bee Gees and Kenny Rogers."-- SF Chronicle
“Seemingly content with their outsider status, Foolproof Four appears to sound confident about the back-porch folk harmonies that have set them apart from the current ‘noise rock’ Bay Area music scene. On their debut [3-Song Sampler]…themes of positivity and spiritual satisfaction are at the fore, while the laidback grooves sound quite effortless. Even the politically themed a cappella tune (a genre that seems to be saved for boy bands and annoying community college clubs) is genuinely entertaining. This all reflects on their famous live performances…they are known to be a very loose and fun experience worth spending time on. Well after a few listens to their debut [3-Song Sampler], I’m sold.” -–Kata Rokkar
